In 1980, he reappeared for the Civil Services Exam and this time secured a position in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). However, he resigned from IAS after only four months.

Becoming a Parliamentarian, Legislator, and Minister:

In 1980, Dr. Shrikant Jichkar won the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, becoming a legislator. He remained a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985 and served as a State Minister. Dr. Jichkar won on the Congress party ticket from Katol. After that, from 1986 to 1992, he was elected as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He handled 14 departments as a minister in the Maharashtra government.

Dr. Shrikant Jichkar established the Kalidas Sanskrit University in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He earned a Ph.D. in Sanskrit and contributed significantly to the field of Sanskrit language research.
